We seem to be able to get answers to most questions on this forum, so here's one.

I have a bare aluminium mudguard on my Lambretta, which picks up corrosion over time. Having cleaned it up to a nice smooth finish, does anyone have any recommendations for keeping the corrosion at bay, but keeping it looking au natural?

I'm leaning towards a spraying a few coats of clear lacquer, but was wondering if there was anything better.

Whenever I have watched the hot rod/restoration programmes on Discovery Turbo and they have left the car "unpainted", the body shop have always put clear lacquer/sealer over the car to keep it protected.

Like Chris says, I think clear lacquer is the way to go. Just be aware that it can be difficult to get a good 'key' on freshly polished ali, and many of the metal polishes (Autosol etc.) have protective waxes that will further prevent adhesion. I've heard (but not tried) that leaving the surface to oxidise slightly for a day or two after polishing can give the paint/lacquer a better surface to key to. I will be facing a similar problem with the raw polished BRM wheels on the VW.
